The James Beard Foundation Awards
M. Young Communications launched the awards in 1990 for the Foundation and continued to handle all financial and program management, event production and media relations for this prestigious culinary awards program for 16 consecutive years. During that time, the awards became the pre-eminent honors for culinary professionals receiving international media coverage. Our responsibilities included:
Awards management: working with six volunteer committees of culinary professionals, contracting an independent accounting firm, conducting outreach to confirm judges, notifications to award nominees and winners, and serving as the overall information bureau for the awards.
Sponsorship and Ticket Sales: Raising more than $800,000 in corporate underwriting as well as overseeing ticket sales. The event grew from 800 attendees in 1991 to more than 2000 in 2006.
Production of the awards ceremony: a carefully scripted and produced event featuring guest celebrity presenters. M. Young Communications oversaw event production, scripting and involvement of celebrity culinary presenters.
Production of the awards reception: a gala event featuring more than 25 guest chefs (the theme changed each year), and dozens of wine and spirits tables. M. Young Communications handled all event production, culinary coordination and beverage management as well as development of signage and all catering coordination and floor plan design.
Management of graphic design: coordination of all design elements, from invitations to signage to tickets to press badges.
Media Management: all publicity outreach including announcement of nominees, winners and management of the on-sight press room.
The James Beard Foundation Annual Holiday Auction
M. Young Communications produced and publicized this annual fundraiser for 14 years. The event featured a seated dinner for 300 prepared by a team of guest chefs (the theme of the dinner changed each year), and silent and live auctions.
