New York City Restaurant Week (1992-2002)
The most successful citywide restaurant promotion in the history of New York. M. Young Communications was responsible for organizing the launch of this program in 1992 as a hospitality initiative for the Democratic National Convention in New York. 100 restaurants offered prix-fixe three course lunches for $19.92. The program was an unprecedented success, and restaurants were sold out citywide. Important international media coverage helped demonstrate that New York was the "restaurant capital of the world." The program is now under the auspices of NYC & Company - the Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Restaurant Week is offered both in the winter (last week of January) and summer (last week of June). In 2002, more than 160 restaurants participated in the program.
New York City Restaurant Day (1993-2001)
M. Young Communications launched this daylong event in 1993 as a citywide promotion for all restaurants. Under a special city street activity permit secured by M. Young Communications, more than 200 restaurants in all five boroughs sold menu items outside for $3-$5 per plate with proceeds donated to hunger relief charities Share Our Strength and Citymeals-on-Wheels. The program is now under the auspices of NYC & Company - the Convention & Visitors Bureau.
